Is Kinesis Survey™ better suited for experienced survey programmers or novice users?
Both. Experienced programmers will find all of the advanced question types, display options and analysis tools needed for in-depth research projects. Novice users will appreciate the easy-to-use interface that automates common survey programming tasks via point-and-click, and the on-page Context Help that provides support for virtually every function just when you need it. Offshore programmers will appreciate the document upload and scripting capabilities.
Does Kinesis provide survey programming services?
Yes, Kinesis offers its clients full survey programming services at highly competitive rates.
What types of devices can be used for accessing and completing surveys?
Kinesis Survey™ supports a variety of devices for survey taking: desktop PCs, laptop PCs, tablets, mobile phones (both smartphones and feature phones), Netbooks, iPads, and other web-enabled electronics.
How does Kinesis’ mobile survey capability work? Is it a downloadable application?
The Kinesis CAMI® solution is utilized via Kinesis Survey™ and offers survey-taking through mobile browsers. It renders surveys based upon the screen size and overall capabilities of the device each respondent is using. Kinesis utilizes a worldwide device library in order to support the highest possible number of survey-takers on a global scale. Touchscreen-friendly survey themes are available for devices that are able to utilize this feature (including iPhones, iPads and Android devices). Support is also extended to older phones – a smartphone is not required.
How is CAMI® different from MCAPI?
CAMI® (Computer-Assisted Mobile Interviewing) is the industry-leading mobile survey technology and a proprietary asset of Kinesis. MCAPI (Mobile Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) is the general industry term used to describe the online mobile survey process. The CAMI® platform is superior to all competing MCAPI solutions because of its robust functionality and proven track record. Kinesis introduced CAMI® technology in 2003 and regularly enhances it to ensure it remains at the forefront of mobile market research. Today the CAMI® platform processes tens of thousands of mobile surveys each month, thus making Kinesis the most experienced mobile survey solution provider.
What are the advantages and limitations of multimode surveys?
Multimode surveys provide the most flexible user experience for survey respondents. By optimizing surveys for both desktop and mobile interaction, respondents have the freedom to decide when, where and how to complete surveys – ultimately resulting in higher engagement and increased response rates. Some limitations do exist however; not all technologies that are supported by computers are supported by mobile devices, and of course mobile screen size limits how much content a respondent can view at any given time. Kinesis’ expert client services staff can work closely with you to determine if your project is well-suited for multimode execution, and can assist you with multimode best practices.
What kinds of reports can be generated?
Both Kinesis Survey™ and Kinesis Panel™ provide comprehensive, real-time reporting tools that enable clients to generate custom reports. From top line reports that summarize key findings to detailed statistical analyses of all survey responses, Kinesis’ high-speed data filters enable you to quickly harness desired information and easily display it. Data can be exported in multiple file formats (ASCII, CSV, Excel™, SPSS™, and Triple-S XML) and can also be posted to third-party systems. In addition, Kinesis Survey™ provides built-in support for Google Analytics, so survey traffic can be measured by URL on a multitude of criteria.
What languages does the Kinesis platform support?
Kinesis supports all common languages worldwide including those that utilize multi-byte UTF-8 characters (Arabic, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese and Japanese). Loaded languages can be customized and compared, and surveys can be previewed in each selected language just as respondents will see it.
How are surveys launched to respondents?
Kinesis Survey™ supports virtually any type of launch mode required, including launches from public-facing websites, survey invitations sent via email or SMS, capture of unique identifiers from public opinion and public access panels, invitations embedded within social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and via QR code scanning. Kinesis also supports password-protected surveys.
What is the most number of completes Kinesis Survey™ can gather for any one survey?
There is no inherent limitation. Kinesis utilizes a scalable architecture and can add servers as needed.
How many questions can be created in any one survey?
Again, there is no inherent limitation. Several Kinesis clients field surveys containing thousands of data points and questions. There is also the possibility to chain multiple surveys together.
Does Kinesis Survey™ provide any interactive question types?
Yes, Kinesis provides several “out of the box” interactive question types. Our ranking question is a drag-and-drop question. Our sliders extend both vertically and horizontally and make an impressionable substitute for a rating question. Our card sort question utilizes a multi-bucket drag and drop, and supports digital media (audio, images, and even video) as option choices. It supports both open and closed card sort, and offers the ability to show a single option at a time or all items in the stack at the same time.
Can clients create their own interactive question types?
Yes, by using the custom html range capabilities within Kinesis Survey™, clients can create other interactive question types, such as Virtual Shopper and Highlighter applications.
Does the Kinesis platform support Flash?
Any type of media, including images, Flash, audio, and video, may be embedded within a survey. It should be noted that many mobile devices do not readily support Flash, or require the subscriber to first download plug-ins before supporting. Therefore, Flash should be used with caution in mobile surveys.
Does the Kinesis platform support video? Can it be streamed from YouTube?
Video, along with media players, may be embedded within the survey. Depending upon the size of the file, Kinesis can recommend whether it is best to embed in the survey or stream from another source. Media can be streamed from YouTube and many other sources if desired.
What types of quotas does Kinesis support?
Kinesis supports both simple and complex quotas, as well as real-time least-filled quota assignment.
Can respondents drop out and return to the survey at a later time?
Yes, resuming surveys is a feature enabled by default, but this capability can be “turned off” if desired. For instance, you might not want respondents to be able to re-enter a concept testing survey where they need to recall information that was already shown in the previous survey session.
What does Kinesis do to prevent blacklisting with ISPs?
Blacklisting is caused by a number of factors, and each ISP has their own rules regarding blacklisting. Spam flags can be caused by poor wording or punctuation marks in the subject line, sending too many invitations too fast, as well as a variety of other factors. Any high-volume mail sender will experience difficulties with blacklisting from time to time. Kinesis Survey™ offers a variety of proactive ways to monitor and control blacklisting, including dedicated IP addresses or dedicated IP pools, automated opt-out and bounce-back management, spam scoring on invitations, reputation monitoring tools, and more.
Can the Kinesis platform authenticate respondents and prevent survey “cheaters?”
There are many different types of survey cheating. One consists of tampering with the URL, potentially to take the survey multiple times. Kinesis supports MD5 hash URI-verification, which automatically invalidates any survey URL that has been modified. Other types of survey cheating include straight-lining, speeding, and what is typically called being “unengaged” in the survey-taking process. Kinesis Survey™ provides integration to partner solutions to address all of these.
What can be done to prevent respondents from stealing intellectual property that is placed within surveys?
Kinesis has developed ViewProtect®, a feature which places a dynamic watermark containing respondent identification over an image. Respondents can still capture the image using a third-party screenshot tool, but any attempt to publish it without revealing their identity will be difficult. The right-click menu can also be disabled, making it difficult for respondents to save the image to their computer. The Kinesis client services team can make additional protective recommendations if you have other, specific intellectual property issues.
How many panelists can be supported on each Kinesis Panel™ installation?
Kinesis Panel™ is fully scalable and can support an unlimited number of panelists. In addition, multiple panels can be supported from a single installation.
What types of queries can be performed?
Kinesis Panel™ offers the most advanced query tool of any panel management solution – you can query and pull sample based on any combination of database attributes, participation activity (or inactivity), geography, etc. No database scripting is required.
Does Kinesis provide APIs for web service calls?
Yes, APIs are available for Kinesis Survey™ and Kinesis Panel™. A wide range of functions are supported.
What types of hosting arrangements does Kinesis offer?
Kinesis hosts many of our clients’ survey and panel web installations on a state-of-the-art SaaS infrastructure. Both shared and dedicated infrastructures are available. Clients may also self-host if desired.
Is the Kinesis platform reliable?
Kinesis provides outstanding reliability and interoperability. We know reliability is of paramount importance — as data collection is the lifeblood of the market research industry. Kinesis only uses technologies and third-party software known to archive very high reliability and performance.
Is the Kinesis platform secure?
